The type of lenses to choose for your prescription lenses will depend primarily on their functionality.
If you are looking for sports glasses, or glasses for children, we always recommend opting for polycarbonate. For the simple reason that they absorb impacts and the "crystals" will not break. The downside is that they scratch more quickly.
If you are looking for lenses with diopters under Esf +/-4.00 (myopia or hyperopia) and Cylinder -2.00, we recommend organic lenses with index 1.56 or 1.61 if you want something better and lighter.
If your prescription for astigmatism, myopia or hyperopia is over +/-4.00 you will want to start thinking about thinning them. The prescription of the lens will depend mainly on the type of lenses you want to choose.
If you want large optics, the "crystals" or lenses will be thicker, so it is advisable to thin them out more to have optical lenses without image aberrations at the edges.
